A seamless platform for managing children’s emotional learning
What is tapouts Parent Portal?
tapouts offers weekly coaching sessions focused on social-emotional learning, helping children develop resilience, confidence, and self-regulation.
"I just want to easily check my child's progress and schedule. Why is it so complicated?"
Background
As Tapouts grew, more parents enrolled their children in coaching sessions, but managing schedules and tracking progress remained a challenge.
We observed a high drop-off rate after trial sessions, and parents often missed scheduled classes due to the lack of a structured rescheduling system. Additionally, parents struggled to discover relevant programs for their child’s ongoing development, leading to missed opportunities for continued learning.
Design and build an intuitive Parent Portal that enables parents to manage their child’s learning journey effortlessly while fostering long-term engagement.
Project Goal
📉 -45% reduction in no-show rates after implementing a structured rescheduling system.
Key Metrics
📈 +30% increase in parent retention due to improved engagement strategies.
🚀 +25% growth in additional course enrollments with the introduction of personalized learning pathways.
The parent experience was fragmented and inefficient.
Disovering Main Problem
Through user interviews and behavior tracking, we identified key pain points:
From Foundational UX to Long-Term Engagement
Process
The Tapouts Parent Portal was designed to streamline scheduling, improve engagement, and enhance long-term retention.
My role covered the entire UX journey, from auditing existing pain points, to designing a workable MVP, to iteratively adding engagement & loyalty features based on user behavior.
Designed differentiated scheduling logic and interface flows tailored to user lifecycle stages, improving onboarding experience and long-term retention.
Final Solutions - A Scalable, Parent-Centric Learning Experience
1️⃣ Smarter Scheduling for Different Parent Needs
🔹 First-time Users (Stage - Booked but not yet attended a class)
📌 User need: Quickly find a suitable class, understand system value, low friction onboarding
📌 Challenge: High drop-off rates due to difficulty in finding a suitable class.
✅ Solution: Allowed flexible rescheduling for parents in the trial phase, ensuring they could explore and find the best-fit session for their child.
🔹 Trial Users (Stage - 1–4 Classes Attended)
📌 User need: Flexibility to explore different time slots, teachers, or class types
📌 Challenge: Inconvenient class time = likely churn
✅ Solution: Dynamic rescheduling feature with available time slots auto-filtered by child profile and
Added gentle reminders and progress visualization to reinforce learning value
🔹 Long-term Users (Stage - 4+ Classes Attended)
📌 User need: Balancing long-term class consistency with occasional flexibility
📌 Challenge: Frequent rescheduling disrupted group bonding and learning continuity
✅ Solution:
Relocated the reschedule option to profile, reducing impulsive changes
Fixed recurring schedule as default; support absence requests instead
Reinforced a stable routine while still offering flexibility
2️⃣ Driving Engagement Through Iterative Feature Evolution
Beyond scheduling, Tapouts needed to ensure long-term parent engagement by making the platform an ongoing resource for their child’s growth.
🔹 What I did – Gamification + Market Validation Strategy
📌 Challenge: Parents were primarily using the platform for scheduling only, with low platform engagement outside of session booking.
✅ Solution: Launched in three iterative phases to boost engagement:
Phase 1: MVP with only class tracking
Phase 2: TXPs rewards system tied to attendance
Phase 3: Weekend activity redemption pilot (tied to points)
📈 Validated the final solution via a 2-week market test, resulting in a 40% increase in weekly parent logins and strong qualitative feedback.
🔹 Phase 1 (MVP with only class tracking)
Minimal session dashboard. Functional but low retention.
🔹 Phase 2 (TXPs System)
Introduced basic gamification to reward attendance. Engagement saw a small spike but quickly plateaued.
🔹 Phase 3 (Redeemable Activities)
Weekend fitness sessions unlocked with TXPs. Tested in a controlled market → high usage & positive response.
